Biodiversity assessment from the outer space

We were associated to a really nice perspective piece spearheaded by Alex Bush and Doug Yu which was published last month in Nature Ecology & Evolution - even hit the cover (see below)! In brief, this paper proposes to make use of Earth observation data to monitor biodiversity at gigantic scales. To do so though, it will be necessary to combine them with excellent ground-level small-scale biodiversity scans (e.g. using eDNA/iDNA metabarcoding) from which good quality extrapolation will only be possible using cutting-edge statistics.
